Fu#%ing Up.

Four day break was really a mess.  I tried distance correspondence with a presentation group in my Sr. Seminar politics class.  I really just didn't add much to the group.  I've fucked up like tis before but it was me and just me who suffered.  It sucks to make other people work for you.  I just did it wrong and there is no real way to reverse it this time around.  This is what its like to plain botch it.  

NAMESAKE OF THE BLOG!

The title "Motifs With a Lemon Twist" came out of the unique relationship I have with art as well as with the word 'motif'.

Growing up in suburbia,  'art' was something that was kind of an 'extra' and non-vital activity as compared to sports and math and the like.  The movie Beverly Hills Cop only further set this image I had of art in my mind.  In this scene the art seems disconnected from reality and only for  high class people.  This scene was so funny to my friends and I that I perfected the accent of this man "Serge" and would put it on any time things like 'motifs' and other kinds of artsy things were being discussed.  

I still think its funny but my relationship with art has changed a lot since then.  And I don't talk like Serge any more when discussing art.  Well sometimes I do.  But anyway...  the idea of my blog is to show how art can be an every day thing.  Enjoy Serge for now.

Thoughts on 'The Periphery'

The new assignment in my media book arts class is to capture a view of the "periphery" in a series of images.  The thought of understanding being on the periphery intrigued me.  I really feel like dry comedy has lot to do with this.  The comedy is found in a collective kind of assumption that says 'you get it don't you'.  My favorite comedy cartoonist Brad Neely really captures this well.  His images connect with his words in some peripheral space.  It's funny and even profound to me.

Amazing Art

What is it about this?  Found it on my other classes blog.  What makes this so amazing?  Is it 'original' or does it effectively borrow from past artistic ideas?  Either way I like it.

Design in a work bench

On of my life passions is working on and riding bikes. this is why last night (the night before the first day of class ;) I stayed up until something like 2 in the morning designing my in house bike shop. It was an addictive process because the usefulness and the beauty of the workbench were something I just needed in my life. This was a project in utility and design for me. The funny thing though is that I was guilty the whole time I was doing it. Shouldn't I get some sleep so I can read thick books tomorrow? Shame one me! but hey, this is real life. We want our stuff where we want it and it excites and calms us when we get it that way. Don't some people have like huge shoe racks in their closet? (First Image is my hard earned workbench!
